A tiara is extremely similar to a crown. It is worn by the women counterparts of the royal family. While the king wears a crown, a queen usually wears a tiara. There may be times when the queen wears a crown too but the princesses definitely wear tiaras. If we translate the word tiara into English, the literal translation would be ‘high crown’. But a tiara is not like a crown at all. The only similarity would be is that it is worn on the head and that it is jewel encrusted. It is circular but not totally round. The ends of a tiara do not meet at the back of the head like a crown. It is worn like a headband that sits on the head instead of going around it. They used to be made of leather in the old days and had jewels on them. They were only worn by important members of society but mostly restricted to emperors and smaller kings.

The tiara has gone through many stages of its development. Different societies and cultures decorated tiaras in different ways to give the tiara its due respect. The time from the fifteenth to the twentieth century BC saw Assyrians use bull horns worn on the head to as a mark of authority. These horns were sometimes decorated with feathers as embellishments instead of the jewels used today. In Persia too the tiara was extremely popular. But instead of feathers, the decoration focused more on jewels. But the tiara ten was more like a crown than it is today. It had a peak on top which resembled a cone and looked more like a hat.

Another place where a tiara might be seen is the Roman Catholic Church. No Pope is complete without the Papal tiara. It is headgear that is worn mainly for a ceremonial reason. It has three crowns and a globe at its centre. The globe indicates the global influence and authority of the Pope. Though the Pope doesn’t exactly wear it any longer, it is still an important fixture in the Church.

The tiara today is a simple thing. It is a semicircle band worn on the head and is usually not jewel encrusted like in the days gone by. It no longer signifies authority or rank but just simply worn to adorn an outfit. It is worn on the most formal of occasions to go with a gorgeous dress. It is the best accessory when you decide to go bare with any other accessories. Since a person usually thinks of a princess when a tiara is mentioned, that lends the tiara a very feminine touch. A tiara still has prestige though and since it exemplifies femininity and elegance, it is mostly worn at wedding nowadays.

The Queen of England owns the widest collection of tiaras today and people come from across the world to admire the tiaras. They are all mainly heirlooms and the ones the she owns personally are priceless. Most of these have been given to her as heirlooms and are probably the most beautiful pieces of jewellery ever created.

If you are on the heavier side and this is aimed at those for whom stillletoes and straps should be a thing of the past. The fact that you may be simply murdering your back, you could also be torturing yourself for something that does not give the desired results. For instead of looking hot or cool, you end up looking funny. Bright colours and strappy sandals are also best left alone if you do not want to draw attention to large ankles.

Embellishments

Appliqué, embroidery, rhinestones and ribbons, if your love for these has not diminished, then see to it that it is only in the detailing. Try self coloured embroidery if you absolutely love it. Appliqué only at the edges, and rhinestones best left alone. Anything too fancy and bright looks good on teens but would only end up looking garish at this age.

Wild Combinations

Fashionistas could be going wild mixing and matching wild combinations, but don’t get carried away by this latest in fashion. Bright colours can make one look larger or shorter or stouter. It only adds to our woes. If you must have something bright, then coordinate it with a neutral colour or try and find something that has a wee bit of white in it so that you could team it with white.

It isn’t going so well lately – surprise, surprise. Apparently her affair with Balthazar has damaged more than just her reputation. Sienna’s latest film project Hippie Hippie Shake has reportedly been postponed because of the situation, and won’t be released until next spring at the earliest.

Sienna is now so worried about the damage that’s been done to her career, sources are claiming she’s asked Balthazar’s wife, Rosetta, to speak up and dispel rumours that she broke up the couple’s eight year marriage. A source revealed:

“Sienna is being portrayed as a femme fatale and fears for her career because Hollywood hates a home wrecker. She hopes Balthazar can get Rosetta to put out a statement saying their marriage was already over. They have already got friends to speak out, saying he was sleeping on their sofas.”

Unsurprisingly Rosetta isn’t interested in helping out:

“It’s nonsense that the marriage was already over.” The source explained. “When Balthazar went away in May, Rosetta thought it was to see his sick mum in Germany. But she now knows that it was to cavort with Sienna in Prague.”

Oh Sienna, when will you learn – people just don’t want to see you act, it’s got nothing to do with you personal life, just your professional abilities. No offence…

Beaver Geldof has finally spoken about her alleged “drug overdose” three weeks ago, and guess what?? She’s claiming the incident was just a “bad experience”….

Well durhh, you don’t have to be a drug expert to know that much. In an interview, Beaver spoke about the incident in which she was reportedly resuscitated by a team of paramedics, dismissing it as merely “something people go through in their lives, especially growing up in London.”

Beaver went on to say that the parallels being made between her and her mum Paula, who died of a heroin overdose, simply aren’t true.

“If she died in a car crash, does it mean I’d have to run out in front of a car and it’d be history repeating itself?”

hmmm, slightly dodgy comparison Beaver, but whatever helps you sleep at night.
