As usual, the trend starts at the top of the fashion tree: mens designer clothing names like D&G, Versace, Prada, Lang and co. have all brought out their own hifalutin versions of this type. Filtering down the line, the best High Street men’s fashion clothing designers have picked up the vibe - Bench clothing, G-star jeans, Henleys, Duck and Cover and the rest. Silk, not so common in men’s fashion except among those who dress on Savile Row, is partly responsible for nylon - another common element in our everyday fashions. Prior to 1939, most silk came from Japan, but after Pearl Harbour, the silk trade was interrupted and nylon was developed as a vital cheaper alternative. Nowadays nylon is integral to all kinds of clothing from streetwise jackets to the ubiquitous, ever-popular stocking.

But if we’re talking about ‘looks’ as opposed to fabrics, the new winter theme is at least a reassuring step in the sensible direction away from metrosexual trends that feel very suddenly as though they belong to a different economic era, such as the surge in sales of men’s tights, or the rush on Beckham skirts. It’s a reminder that in times of financial downturn, we need to insulate against the cold to come, and to maintain a positive, zip-conscious outlook.

Fashion footwear retailer www.shudoo.co.uk have commissioned a survey of women across the country to see what their thoughts on the credit crunch are with some very interesting, not to mention surprising results…

Over 90% of women would consider wearing UGG or sheepskin boots indoors to save on their energy bills at home. However when faced with a bit of spare cash from a potential bill saving over 50% would blow it straight away. 36% said that they would log straight on to Shudoo to purchase a new pair of shoes and 20% felt that energy saving was tiring and would put it towards a holiday. Not everyone was as frivolous, 22% would put the money towards their credit card and 21% would save it for a rainy day.

Shoe sharing was another hot topic and while we have to make do with rummaging through our family and friends collections, imagine your friend was famous with access to shoes that we can only covet in magazines. It seems that everyone wants to get their hands on or should that be their feet into Cheryl Cole’s shoes as she swooped 33% of the vote. However the ultimate shoe queen Sarah Jessica Parker was equally as popular with 33%-who could resist all of those Manolo’s? Other popular choices were Kate Moss (22%) and Victoria Beckham (11%).

We’re not sure why a video of Britney Spears working out is so interesting. She doesn’t fall over in it or do anything that can be construed as amusing or entertaining so why do we want to watch it? Well sometimes it’s better not to question life’s little pleasures.
